Systems in Seattle Net Steady Sales “New systems have dramatically improved our effectiveness,” says Marc Pujalet, Senior Vice President of the Seattle-King County Convention & Visitors Bureau (SKCCVB). “We recently upgraded our in-house sales management system (now Destination 3000, from Software Management, Inc.), and it is facilitating powerful tools for better sales management. We’ve used it to build an efficient sales coverage model more easily, to track client activity/decision dates, improve reporting information and build a more meaningful sales incentive program. In addition it’s now much simpler to e-mail leads and information to hotels and clients.” “Passkey.com has also proved to be an exceptional asset in managing our city-wide convention housing blocks, as well as providing a platform for improved e-commerce functionality. We are launching a Passkey-enabled leisure housing system that should be fully operational in the very near future.” “The Internet is a good source of business for Seattle, and we spend a great deal of time looking at our positioning to ensure that we’re easily found by the different search engines.” What are the biggest challenges? “Deciding which horses to ride! I must get 5-10 e-mails a day providing “must have” electronic distribution tools for the SKCCVB. It’s really hard to know which ones have traction and will bring real exposure and incremental business for our City. All of them take resources to manage and to maximize any potential.” “Another challenge is trying to integrate, or at least link, the various systems used by hotel chains, city attractions, our members and Washington State tourism organization. All of these systems have the potential to improve our overall effectiveness-if they can be organized. Otherwise, using them can sometimes be confusing to clients and travelers.” “Additional good news is that these technology challenges are creating a need for technology providers to meet more often; and Seattle is the natural city to host cutting-edge technology meetings. So all around, more technology means business is getting better - bring it on!”
